R. Clark Robins, Jr. was born in Richmond, VA. After graduating from Douglas Freeman High School, he attended the University of Richmond majoring in liberal arts with a concentration in music. He served his carpentry apprenticeship with Lancaster and Clarke. Returning to school, he graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in business administration and business management. He then went into business for himself in 1981 trading as Clark Robins, Custom Builder. The company was incorporated in July of 1990 as Clark Robins, Design/Build, Inc.
Robins has a passion for his craft and has gained a reputation for his stubborn attention to detail. His clients strive to create spaces which are personalized and unique, and creating the unique, typically within a traditional framework, is something he enjoys and is a trademark of the company. He considers his relationship with his clients and their projects as ongoing. It is not unusual for these relationships to span a dozen years or more, and occasionally generations.
An avid sailor and traditional sailboat enthusiast, Robins maintains his ketch, Solitude, on the Chesapeake Bay. In addition to his love of sailing, music is a life long interest and he enjoys playing guitar and piano. His spare time is spent with his wife and pursuing these pastimes.
